Lack of self-confidence is when a person has low belief in their own abilities, judgment, or worth. It often leads to self-doubt, hesitation, fear of failure, or avoidance of challenges and opportunities.

Key signs can include:

  • Fear of trying new things or taking risks

  • Sensitivity to criticism or rejection

  • Difficulty expressing opinions or asserting oneself

  • Feeling inadequate compared to others

Some may experience common symptoms such as:

  • Fear of failure: Avoiding challenges or new opportunities

  • Sensitivity to criticism: Taking feedback personally or feeling easily discouraged

  • Negative self-talk: Thinking you’re not good enough or comparing yourself unfavorably to others

  • Social withdrawal: Hesitating to speak up, participate, or assert yourself

  • Indecisiveness: Struggling to make choices or take action

  • Over-reliance on others: Seeking constant reassurance or approval
