Rewind Therapy

Rewinding PTSD has become internationally recognised as indispensable to treat PTSD.  Rewind Therapy is a non-disclosure therapy developed by Dr. David Muss in the early 1990s to treat Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other trauma-related conditions like phobias and anxiety.

Rewind Therapy

What is it?

Rewind Therapy is a trauma therapy technique designed to help post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and phobias by safely processing and "re-archiving" traumatic memories to prevent involuntary flashbacks, panic, and nightmares. The core benefit is that it does not require the client to disclose details of the traumatic event, allowing for rapid symptom reduction and the transfer of memories from the "stuck" short-term state to a normal long-term memory without the associated distress.

How does it work?

Rewind therapy works by guiding a person in a comfortable grounded state to visualise a traumatic memory on a screen and then "rewind" it like a film, transitioning it from a stuck, short-term state to a normal long-term memory without the emotional distress. This dissociative process, also called visual-kinaesthetic dissociation, allows the brain's hippocampus to process the event calmly, detaching the overwhelming emotions and making the experience a less impactful, "normal" memory.

Who's it for

Rewind therapy is for individuals experiencing the psychological effects of trauma, such as PTSD and phobias, providing relief from intrusive thoughts, flashbacks, and anxiety without requiring detailed discussion of the traumatic events. It is suitable for victims, witnesses, and even perpetrators of traumatic events, as well as children and adults, to help reprocess memories and reduce their emotional impact.

How can TCS help?

Therapy Centre Services have a team of Counsellors who are trained in Rewind Therapy and able to provide sessions to both private clients and those referred to us by their Employers, or other third party referrers.

For single, isolated traumatic events, 2-6 sessions are often sufficient, with some experiencing significant relief after just 2 sessions. However for more complex issues, clients may require more sessions. This will be discussed and agreed with the therapist at the initial appointment.
