EMDR Therapy

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing

The therapy is recognised by organisations like the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and the World Health Organization (WHO) as an effective treatment for PTSD and other mental health conditions

EMDR

What is it?

Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful scientifically proven psychotherapy to help people recover from traumatic events in their lives which have led to poor mental health.

How does it work?

EMDR works by helping individuals process and reprocess traumatic memories, reducing their emotional impact and allowing for a more adaptive perspective. This is achieved through a structured approach that combines recall of the traumatic memory with bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, tapping, or auditory tones

Who's it for

EMDR is primarily used to help individuals process and recover from traumatic experiences, including those leading to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). However, it's also increasingly used to address other mental health challenges like anxiety, depression, and even some addictions, especially when these are rooted in past trauma.

How can TCS help?

Therapy Centre Services have a team of EMDR Counsellors who are able to provide sessions to both private clients and those referred to us by their Employers, or other third party referrers.

For single, isolated traumatic events, 3-6 sessions are often sufficient, with some experiencing significant relief after just 3 sessions. However for more complex issues, clients may require more sessions. This will be discussed and agreed with the therapist at the initial appointment.
