June marks the start of summer, bringing longer days, warmer weather, and more opportunities to spend time outdoors. It is also National Smile Month, making it the perfect time to reflect on the simple things that bring joy and help support our wellbeing.

National Smile Month is often associated with oral health, but smiling can also reflect the positive experiences that help us feel happier and more connected. A smile shared with a neighbour, a friendly conversation during a walk, or laughter with family and friends can brighten someone's day and strengthen our sense of belonging.

Community plays an important role in supporting mental health. Feeling connected to others can reduce feelings of loneliness, improve confidence, and provide a valuable support network during challenging times. As summer begins, there are more opportunities to engage with our communities through local events, outdoor activities, and social gatherings. These connections can help foster a sense of purpose and remind us that we are part of something bigger than ourselves.

For many people, June is also a time for special occasions, be it summer weddings, university graduation celebrations, school fetes and summer concerts. It is often the shared experiences and meaningful connections that leave the biggest impact. Spending time with loved ones, enjoying the outdoors, and creating positive memories together can all contribute to our overall wellbeing.

This National Smile Month, why not embrace the opportunities that summer brings? Take a walk, reconnect with friends, spend time in nature, or simply enjoy a moment in the sunshine. Sometimes the simplest activities can be the ones that make us smile the most.

As we welcome the new season, let's celebrate the power of connection, community, and the everyday moments that support good mental health and bring smiles to our faces.
