Counselling Services

Darlington Borough Council provides access to up to six confidential counselling sessions, including an initial assessment and up to five further sessions where appropriate.

This short-term support is designed to help you remain at work wherever possible while you seek any additional treatment you may need (for example, through your GP).

Counselling offers a safe and secure space to talk through challenges that may be affecting your wellbeing. When daily pressures build, stress and anxiety can increase — speaking with a trained counsellor can help you gain perspective, develop coping strategies, and work through difficulties.

Our experienced counsellors support a wide range of issues, including:

  • Work-related concerns – workload, harassment, new roles, workplace relationships

  • Personal difficulties – anxiety, bereavement, relationship problems, financial worries, health concerns, substance misuse

We offer a confidential, non-judgemental environment and tailor sessions to individual needs using a range of approaches, including:

  • Integrative counselling

  • Person-centred counselling

  • CBT (Cognitive behavioural therapy)

  • Solution-focused therapy

  • EMDR (Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing)

  • EFT (Emotional freedom technique)

  • Trauma counselling

All sessions are delivered in complete confidence, providing a safe space focused on your wellbeing.
